Policy types

For policies to be effective and achieve their aims, different types of instruments or interventions can be put to use. Often, these instruments either provide an incentive to carry out activities or may also penalize certain actions. Providing information or structures for organizing actions may also motivate or affect different actors. In this handbook, we have divided policy instrument into five key types.
